Halfway

Wow, friends!

On January 15, I hit the 6 month mark. Halfway. What. On. Earth.

It’s so crazy to think that I’m halfway through my time here. The thought makes me want to both laugh and cry. These past months have been some of the hardest, yet most rewarding, months of my life. But mostly when I think back on the first portion of my time here, I am just deeply grateful to God for His goodness in bringing me to Uganda and His kindness and faithfulness in sustaining me during my time here. It’s been a season unlike any other. I wouldn’t trade it or change it for anything, and I’m excited to see how the Lord uses this final half.

Another big thing that happened during these past few weeks is I moved! A splendid opportunity presented itself and after I sought counsel and prayed about it, I decided that moving was the right move to make. 🙂 Not only am I saving a chunk of money on rent, I also get my very own bedroom. This is an absolute luxury to an introvert like me! I have just one other roommate (as opposed to anywhere from 4-8) who also loves Jesus, and we live in a cheerful and cozy fully furnished apartment. (And yes, it’s very safe and very secure!)

I wasn’t actively looking to move, but it’s already been such a blessing. Coming off of a crazy couple of months, being able to have my own little quiet space to just process and be has been an absolute gift. I’m able to separate work and home a bit, and this new home has truly become a place of rest and sanctuary. The Lord didn’t have to open this door, but I’m awfully glad that He did.

With new directors, a new apartment, attending a new church, new ministry opportunities, and a new laptop (thanks Mom and Dad!) among other things, this year has started off with a whole bunch of newness. It’s similar to drawing in a breath of clean Spring air. There’s a bit of a bite in it, but it’s also beautifully refreshing and contains an excitement and anticipation for what is around the bend. Winter is over, and Spring has come, bringing with it fresh hope and new life.  (So to speak. There’s actually neither of those seasons here. I like to say I’m living in the eternal Summer! haha) I’m trusting that good things are ahead, for sure mixed with some hard, but I’m learning that that’s not such a bad combination. In fact, it’s quite good! When it comes to nature, Spring showers are just as important as sunshine for things to grow properly.

“Wrong will be right, when Aslan comes in sight,
At the sound of his roar, sorrows will be no more,
When he bares his teeth, winter meets its death,
And when he shakes his mane, we shall have spring again.”
C.S. Lewis, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

If you’re still in a Winter season – whether physically or figuratively – know this: It won’t last forever. This too shall pass. Spring is around the corner, but death has to come before new life can grow. And when it does, it’s even sweeter. Take heart friend, Christ is making all things new.

“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:

a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace.

He has made everything beautiful in its time.”
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8,11

Anyway, that’s just a brief update on my life right now. Thank you for taking the time to read and follow along!

Until Next Time,

Joy

P.S. I blogged TWICE in one month! I’m feeling prettyyy accomplished, if I do say so.
P.P.S. I also designed and am selling another t-shirt to raise funds for the second portion of my time here. Click here to check it out. They are available for 8 more days!
